Born in Australia and raised in a traditional South Indian family, Jayan Gopinathan’s journey into Carnatic music began under the guidance of Smt. Jayalakshmi Raman in Perth. His passion led him to Kerala, where he trained under the esteemed Smt. Komattil Shanthakumari, a disciple of Sangeetha Kalanidhi Sri G.N. Balasubramaniam.

Jayan further honed his skills under Sri Vaikom T.V. Jayachandran, a disciple of Sangeetha Kalanidhi Sri T.M. Thyagarajan. He continues advanced training and collaboration with the legendary Grammy award winner, Sri L Shankar. Jayan also runs a non profit music institution including a music school, in partnership with Sri L Shankar.

Known for his soulful renditions and technical mastery, Jayan curates compositions that resonate deeply with audiences, aiming to connect listeners to a higher existence through music.

 Jayan Gopinathan also founded and directs a nonprofit organisation, KWJ Music, which is spreading and increasing the exposure of Carnatic music worldwide, as well as creating opportunities for upcoming artists. KWJ Music is in partnership with Shenkar and his school, “Shiva Conservatory of Fine Arts”. Through KWJ, Jayan has directed many successful Australian tours of upcoming and established Carnatic artists
